Sarah Bailen Smith Ms. Smith has worked on a wide variety of events ranging from avant-garde jazz performances attended by fifty audience members to weeklong cycling events attended by thousands. She finds nothing more satisfying than taking an event idea and making it happen. She has been making events happen for almost a decade. Within the Pacific Northwest, Ms. Smith has worked with: Mt. Hood Jazz Festival -an internationally acclaimed jazz festival. For the past three years, she has worked with this multi-day event attended by thousands. In 2002 and 2003, Ms. Smith was instrumental in garnering vast publicity for this cultural icon as it transitioned from the Mt. Hood Community College to Gresham Main City Park. In 2001, Ms. Smith instituted a school ticket donation program servicing underserved communities, coordination of the food court, Cycle Oregon - a seven-day organized cycling ride. As a customer service volunteer for Cycle Oregon VIX, Ms. Smith solidified her desire to work within the cycling community. She completed a capstone graduate project researching Cycle Oregon rider motivators by conducting a series of focus groups with Cycle Oregon riders. Reach The Beach - American Lung Association's fundraising cycling event encompassing six start locations that all lead to a coastline finish. Ms. Smith assisted the ride director (Rebecca Miller) with the event in every capacity, from volunteer coordination, participant correspondence, and event day oversight. Eugene Ballet Company - Ms. Smith's position as marketing and development assistant allowed her to hone her skills; coordinating patron fund drives, raising thousands of dollars through their annual fundraiser, the Gourmet Ballet Raffle. She also coordinated statewide school outreach curriculum program. Outside the Lines: an Art
& Law Symposium - Ms. Smith created and spearheaded this event
to educate artists and arts managers on how to protect themselves and
their creations. In its first year, over one hundred individuals attended
four lectures and participated in six workshops with national presenters. Independent Multi-Day Bicycle Tour - In July of 2002, Ms. Smith designed and led a bicycle tour of the Willamette Valley and Oregon coast. The tour consisted of ten individuals, from around the United States, who toured for five days an average of fifty miles per day. The tour included meal stops, first aid, hotel accommodation, and a lot of fun. To solidify her passion for organizing events, Ms. Smith completed a master's degree in Arts Management with a concentration in Event Management at the University of Oregon in 2002.
